• An article on Michael Barrymore (Fallen TV star strikes it lucky by eating a lot on TikTok, 12 September, p21) appeared under the byline of Mark Sweney. It was in fact written by Michael Savage.
• Homophone corner: in an article on landfill sites, it was reported that polychlorinated biphenyls “leech into the surrounding water and soil” (A passionate investigation into a Welsh toxic chemical scandal, 18 August, G2, p10).
• An article (Prince and six claimants have a week to pay £9.5m towards Mail’s legal bills, 22 August, p4) said that, with costs being determined on an indemnity basis, the losing party must pay towards Associated Newspapers Ltd’s costs “without the publisher needing to show these were reasonable and proportionate”. To clarify: there is no requirement for the costs sought to be proportionate. However, while any doubt as to reasonableness will be resolved in favour of the receiving party, the indemnity basis does not enable a party to recover costs it has incurred unreasonably, or which are unreasonable in amount.
