What to do in Berlin? – Proposals to spend the day

Berlin is home to many monuments, the German capital is an exciting city and a wonderful vacation destination, it is known for its museums, churches, parks, spas, theaters, shopping centers, etc. The city acts as a continental landmark and is home to some of the world’s most prestigious universities and research colleges. Berlin is a great city for sightseeing. But  the best way to enjoy and get to know Berlin during the day is to take walking tours .

You can do many activities in Berlin to make an unforgettable trip. For example, you can enjoy the  museums and galleries of Berlin , known for a large number of museums and art galleries, including the Allied Museum (in German, Alliierten Museum), the German Historical Museum (in German, Deutsches Historisches Museum ), The German-Russian Museum in Berlin (Deutsch-Russisches Museum Berlin-Karlshorst), the DDR Museum (DDR Museum), the Berlin Wall Museum at Checkpoint Charlie, and the Märkisches Museum.

Another great walk can be prepared by touring the  Reichstag  (seat of the German Parliament),  Potsdamer Platz ,  Checkpoint Charlie , rivers and canals of the Spreewald, Potsdam, Potsdamer Platz Arkaden, New Kranzler Eck, Kreuzberg, Kurfürstendamm, Prenzlauer Berg, and Gropius Passagen .

A walking tour is a good way to get acquainted and connect with this magnificent city. You can take themed walks during your stay in Berlin and for example take a tour of the theaters in the city. Berlin is home to more than fifty theaters such as the Deutsche Oper, the Berlin State Opera and the Comedy Opera (Komische Oper), the Deutsches Theater, the Berliner Ensemble, the Volksbühne, the Schaubühne, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra among others.

Another great topic for a great tour is the churches of Berlin . This city has some of the best chapels in all of Europe. Some of the famous churches are the Agapa – Asiatica International Community, the American Church of Berlin, the Christian Center of Berlin, the International Church of Berlin, Bethlehem-Gemeinde, and the Community of the Christian Faith.

Tour the Gardens and Parks of Berlin:

Another route that can be done on foot is visits to animal sanctuaries, including Volkspark Friedrichshain, a large urban park on the border of the Friedrichshain and Prenzlauer Berg neighborhoods. Berlin’s oldest public park, with its 52 hectares, is also the third largest, after Tempelhofer Park, in Volkspark Friedrichshaines.

The Volkspark is a very popular entertainment venue in Berlin, and is open 24 hours a day. In addition to the features mentioned above, the park has several indoor playgrounds, a pond, tennis courts, a swimming pool and a restaurant. It is also crossed by routes suitable for running at various levels of difficulty, and in the winter months a toboggan run opens. The park is easily accessible with the 200 bus from Unter den Linden Avenue.

Kurfürstendamm is the second largest park in the city after the Grunewald. It is one of the most famous avenues in Berlin, being one of the most important shopping centers in the German capital.

Pfaueninsel Park (Peacock Island) or Peacock Island , is part of the World Heritage-listed palaces and parks of Potsdam and Berlin and a popular destination for hikers. Pfaueninsel is also a nature reserve, in accordance with the EU Habitats Directive and the Special Protection Area for wild birds.

The  8.5 hectare Potsdamy Botanical Garden , located southwest  of the Orangerie Palace  in Maulbeerallee, is open daily for an entrance fee.

Other parks and natural areas that can be enjoyed are Humboldthain Volkspark, which is a protected nature park. Botanical Garden, Zoo (Zoologischer Garten),  Tiergarten , Kurfürstendamm (Kurfurstendam), Pfaueninsel Park (Peacock Island), Potsdam Gardens, Alter Garnisonsfriedhof, Schlachtensee, Grunewald Forest, Kollwitzplatz, Treptower Park and Marie Abenteuerspielplatz.
