In the early 1980s I heard a poetry reading by Douglas Dunn in the Morden Tower, Newcastle upon Tyne. After that I kept up to date with his new work.

Many years later I discussed his well-known poem St Kilda’s Parliament with my students at an adult education class in Frodsham, Cheshire. One was so enthused that she undertook an adventurous visit to Hirta, the main island of the St Kilda archipelago in the Outer Hebrides.

Douglas was delighted to hear about the trip at a reading at Manchester University that focused on his last collection, The Noise of a Fly (2017).
