Guardian Media Group published its financial results today, showing the company generated revenues of £282m, the highest ever for the Guardian’s news operations, propelled by strong 17% growth in digital reader revenue to £126 million. US revenues grew strongly, up 15% to £64m. Total revenue increased 2% (£6m) to £282m (from £276m in 2024/25).
The Guardian continued to expand its global presence.
Revenue generated outside the UK increased 8% (£9m) to £115m (£106m in 2024/25) and now makes up 41% overall revenue (38% 2024/25), driven by strong growth in the US where the Guardian now has over 500,000 recurring supporters. During the year the Guardian invested in video and audio journalism, alongside investment in US journalism, to further grow reach and impact.
A decade since the Guardian began testing a global voluntary contributions model, funding from Guardian audiences continues to grow strongly. Digital reader revenues increased by 17% to £126m (from £107m in 2024/25). The number of digital recurring supporters also increased by over 116,000 to 1.4m.
Adjusted cash outflow for the operating business decreased to £17m (2024: £24m), reflecting revenue growth, careful cost management as well as investment to support the Guardian’s long term sustainability.
The Guardian has published its annual review, capturing a year of remarkable achievement for the Guardian, with growth, innovation and fearless journalism across its platforms and editions.
Guardian Media Group chief executive Anna Bateson said:
“This year we have continued to make strong progress against our strategy, growing our digital reader revenues and our international revenues and reach. We are intent on making further investments to maximise the reach and impact of Guardian journalism around the world and ensuring our business remains financially sustainable for the long term.
Guardian editor-in-chief Katharine Viner said:
“In the decade since we began directly asking our digital audience to fund our journalism, we’ve witnessed an incredible transformation. The fact that more than 1.4 million people have chosen to support Guardian journalism financially shows that many believe in our mission, our independence, and our reporting.”
Guardian Media Group chair Charles Gurassa said:
“These are an encouraging set of results validating our voluntary supporter, global strategy, and underlining the importance of our commitment to independent and impartial journalism and our willingness to speak truth to power. We will continue to invest in high- quality journalism and the technical capability to reach audiences anywhere in the world looking for reliable news and information they can trust.
