Guardian Documentary, Tesztpálya (Test Track), will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival as part of the prestigious Orizzonti Short Films International Competition on 11 September. The selection presents the world premiere screenings of 13 short films, competing for the Orizzonti Award.

At a time of unrest and uncertainty across much of Europe’s political landscape, the film explores the complexity of life in rural Hungary against the backdrop of 20 years under the leadership of Viktor Orbán, where rural economies are disappearing and communities are forced to seek alternative ways to survive.

Told from the perspective of 14-year-old Hunor, the film shows a family navigating life with one of Europe’s most advanced test tracks for automated vehicles, tractors and tanks in their back garden.

Tesztpálya (Test Track) is directed by Lydia Cornett, commissioned by Guardian Documentaries and produced alongside Good Kids and Roughhouse Project in Hungary. It was made with support from Fulbright and Pulitzer Center.
